Important Update: Stronger Partnership for Supporting Our Children

We’re excited to announce a new agreement with the Ministry of Children, Family and Community Services (MCFD) that will improve how we work together to support our children and families. Binche Whut’en will be the first community in Northern BC to establish this kind of partnership.

These changes aim to ensure culturally safe and effective care for Binche Children and Families.

Key Changes

  • Early Involvement: Binche’s Community Designate must be notified and consulted of all child protection reports within 24 hours.
  • Voluntary Agreements: Binche will be involved in all Voluntary Agreements.
  • Cultural Planning: Binche will exclusively develop and monitor implementation of cultural plans for its children in care.
  • Travel Support: Binche Community Designates travel related funding for in-person planning and decision-making provided by MCFD.

Legal Implications:

  • Binding Agreement: All terms are legally binding on all Social Workers across BC.
  • Dispute Resolution: Binche’s Community Designates can invoke a process for resolution of issues regarding implementation of this agreement or any Social Workers decision
