To all Binche Whut’en Eligible Voters
Due to the tragic loss of our first Binche Whut’en chief, Gerald Anatole, we are announcing a by-election to fill this position. As per our election code, Part 14, 91. (a), the by-election will conclude 45 days from now, and by way of council resolution, we will begin the election process starting today, December 1st, and concluding the election on January 15th, 2021.
We will also use this opportunity to fill the second general on-reserve council position. So, this by-election will be for the following positions.
- Chief (on-reserve)
- General Councillor (on-reserve)
Nomination Meeting, December 18th, 2020, 4pm-6pm at the Binche Whut’en Community Center
A nomination package will be sent to all members whom we have an address on file. If your address has changed recently, please notify us immediately. Please fill out your nomination forms and send back to us as soon as possible. The nomination meeting will be held at the Binche Community Center. Procedures will be put in place to ensure social distancing and safe practices. A reminder, a mask will be mandatory when entering any public spaces. Any nomination packages not received by 6pm, December 18th will not be accepted.
Election Day January 15th, 2021, at the Binche Whut’en Community Center
Voting will be done online or through mail. A polling station will be available on election day at the Binche Whut’en community center. Again, social distancing procedures will be put in place, and masks will be mandatory. Due to the pandemic, we ask all voters to use electronic voting, or mail in ballots. Instructions for online voting will be sent out once candidates have been finalized.
